Elise is so funny . I just had to write this down somewhere before I forget. For Family Home Evening we talked about choosing the right, and I sing the song to her every now and then that says ... choose the right way and be happy we must always choose the right.
On Elise's way to bed last night she asked me to show her which hand was her right hand and which hand was her left hand.
I showed her thinking that she just wanted to know the difference between left and right.
Then she asked me "Which hand do you choose?" I pointed to the left hand not thinking anything of it. She said "Mommy you just chose to live with the devil because you didn't choose the right hand." She said, "Jesus lives on the right and the devil lives on the left". It was so funny and I just am so amazed at the little things that Elise thinks of. It is so fun to learn from her and to try to answer all of her questions. I think Heavenly Father sent us children so that we can learn from them just as much as they learn from us.
Sledding
It seems that everywhere else in the country it is snowing
except for here. It is usually freezing cold this time of year,
but it has been so nice.
I am not complaining, other than the fact that we haven't been able to build our
snowman this year.
Good thing we can drive a little way up into the mountains and have
some fun in the snow.
We had tons of fun sledding and we even got to build our snowman.
Dallin flew off his sled and landed face first in the snow.
He wasn't too happy about this.
On our way home, Elise quickly reminded us that we forgot to say our prayer
and ask Heavenly Father to keep us safe.

January Collage
These are some of the few pictures that I took this month. I finally learned how to braid Elise's hair, and here are some of Dallin and Elise's creations with posterboard and foam paper. Of course, Jayden wanted in on the action so he did some pretty interesting things with the glue. Justin loves to hang out with his kids on the floor. Great times.
January Flew By
So, I have been neglecting my kids in the photography department. I have been reading books, making hair bows, cleaning my house and preparing each week for singing time in Primary. These don't sound like very good excuses to me, but sometimes it feels so nice to just do things that I love to do. The kids have done good at keeping themselves busy though. I have been stocking up on poster boards and foam paper for sharing time since I am the Primary chorister this year. So, of course Dallin and Elise have some wonderful ideas of what they can do with these great new art supplies. I actually love for them to be creative and make things, so I was glad that they came up with some pretty cool pictures. It just means that I will have to go buy some new posterboard and hide it better this time.
One of my New Year's resolutions this year was to read more books for myself and for my kids.
I just wanted to write down the books that I have read so far this month. "Standing For Something", by President Hinckley. "Finding The Angel Within" by Pamela H. Hansen, "The Angels of Morgan Hill", by Donna Vanliere, and "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society", by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Oh, and I am also reading The New Testament. I think I am a little crazy on the reading, but I just love to read good books. So far my favorite book has been "The Angels of Morgan Hill". This was an amazing book that I could just read over and over again. I don't even know how to explain this book, but it is just one of those books that is soooo good, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Dallin is really liking Jigsaw Jones books and Magic Tree House books. We just read a book about Leonardo DaVinci and "The Mona Lisa" Dallin was so impressed by Leonardo's inventions and his notebooks that Dallin started to keep a notebook by his bed so that he can draw his inventions, it is pretty cute. He was so amazed that The Mona Lisa is probably the most famous painting in the world, and I told him that I have actually seen the real painting several times.
Elise has been fascinated with the "Pinkalicious" book by Victoria Kann. She cannot get enough of this book. She also loves "Fancy Nancy". She is starting to really be interested in learning how to read, so I have been trying to teach her a little bit. It is amazing how fast she is picking up on reading and sounding out letters. She already knows all of the sounds of the letters, so now she just needs to learn how to read words. Her age is such a fun age. I just love how she absorbs everything. What I would give to be 4 again for 1 day.
Jayden is fascinated with any book about "Thomas The Train", he loves trains and even though he doesn't say words he tries so hard to explain to me what is happening in the book, and he points out things like a guy who is juggling balls. It is so funny how he notices the little details in the books.
Lastly, something extremely funny that happened this past week happened when I went to Dallin's class to volunteer. His teacher asked me to interview the kids in his class and ask them what they would do if they were President of The United States. Dallin's class just learned about Martin Luther King, so half of the kids told me that they would let the black kids go to school with the white kids. I thought this was so cute, I didn't have the heart to tell the kids that they have black kids at their school who are in their class and go to school with them. They don't even notice the difference. One little girl said that if she were President she would "Love One Another, Serve others, and never tell lies"(this little girl was LDS). I thought it was so cute to hear the innocent answers of the kids, I just wish that they didn't have to grow up and they could all stay the way they are.

6th of January
One of our favorite traditions is the Rosca (a traditional Mexican bread)on the 6th of January. This is the "3 Wise Men Day" in Mexico. The kids leave their shoes out so that the 3 wise men will leave them a little present just as they left a present for the baby Jesus.
We had some friends over to have a Rosca and Posole. Karina Woodbury made the Rosca (mexican bread), she hid little dolls in the bread and whoever got the dolls is supposed to throw a party on February 1st (we just love parties). Karina hid 10 dolls, so all of the kids ended up with a little doll inside of their bread. They were pretty excited. In this picture you can see some of my friends Kate and Joyce, as well as some of Dallin's best friends Stephanie, Mackenzie, Carter, Owen, Charlie (these aren't even half of the kids that were at our house). We had a great time, but definately had a full house. We definately don't have a party house, but it was fun to see everyone.
Dallin's 7th Birthday
This year Dallin turned 7 on December 30th. Just a little bit more to add to our celebrations. Dallin really wanted a science party. Thanks to my friend Jill who had already done a science party for her son in November, Dallin's party was a success. My favorite was my mad scientist hubby who performed all of the experiments for me. The kids had a great time performing science experiments. Of course, they loved watching the bottle of soda with Mentos explode. It was so much fun. We had a sign on the door that read "Enter with Caution Mad Scientist at work".
Dallin had a great birthday, he got a lego airplane from his grandpa that we had fun putting together. He also got a magic set from his Nany and is learning some magic tricks.
We are so grateful to have such a wonderful 7 year old. It is so crazy to think that Dallin is going to turn 8 next year and be baptized. We set a goal about 6 months ago that we would read the Book of Mormon as a family before Dallin gets baptized. We are trying really hard, and are already in the book of Mosiah. Dallin has also set a New Year's resolution to improve in his reading this year in school by reading a couple verses from the Book of Mormon himself. He has done a pretty good job doing this. He is also trying to improve on the piano this year, and actually is doing much better practicing. New Year's are great.
Happy Birthday Dallin. For his birthday he wanted a steak dinner and a lemon chiffon cake. So, we slaved away making lemon chiffon cake. It was so yummy, then for his party I made a volcano cake.
Things that I will remember about Dallin this year are, that he started 1st grade, he finally learned to tie his shoe this year, and we have had so much fun doing science experiments and art projects at home together. His teacher told me the other day that Dallin is her savior. She says that I am so lucky to have a son like Dallin. I agree with her, he is a great kid. He has always been such a good kid and so mature. He is a wonderful older brother, and he actually begs me to let him do chores. I sure love this kid, and I hope that he will always be a good kid. Happy Birthday Dallin!!!
Last Post about Christmas 2010
To top off our Christmas 2010, we spent Christmas Eve and a few days in Placerville with Justin's family. Santa found the kids. They got a really cool lemonade stand that they were very eager to use outside. When we got home, they got hot chocolate and cans of soup and tried selling these in front of our house. Being that it was freezing cold, not too many people stopped by to buy from them , but I think this will be great for the Summer, because the kids love to have lemonade stands outside.
Dallin got his Remote Control Tarantula and a really cool microscope. Jayden got a car ramp, and Elise for a make-up set and belle doll.
Grandpa of course spoiled the kids with great presents as well as Cody and Jenny.
We got to spend time with our cousin Preston, which was fun. He is a cute kid. It makes us remember the days of having only one child. Life somehow gets easier and harder at the same time when you have more kids.
The kids had fun decorating cookies for Santa. Jayden is always very happy when he gets to do things. He loves to do whatever the big kids do.
Christmas was great fun, but it is a relief when it is over, at least for Santa....
